Students disengage from educational systems for a variety of reasons! When a student walks into your classroom, educators have the power to inspire or obstruct their students’ dreams. After enough of these negative experiences, it is extremely difficult to engage & inspire them to believe again! I met an incredibly passionate professor last summer. Her name is Dr. Leanne Kang. She approached me with the idea of interviewing former students and current and former staff members of Grand Rapids Public Schools. Her goal was to have folks share their experiences working and attending GRPS: the highs, the lows, and the life lessons. I mentioned a former student who had recently contacted me. I’ve had the privilege of knowing this young man and the journey to his NOW! I was his 2nd-3rd grade teacher.
